How to download pictures without camera driver

When you purchase a new digital camera, it comes with a driver CD. With installing the programs on this CD, you can easily download and organize pictures. But if you buy a used camera or change to a new computer, and your CD is missing, how can you download the pictures from your camera?
If you are using Windows XP or Vista, your computer can recognize almost all cameras from major brands, even without installing the driver from the original CD.
Here is a simple way to download your pictures from your camera:
1.Double click My Computer icon to open the window.
2.Connect your camera to computer via a USB cable, and turn on the camera.
3.After a while, your computer will recognize your camera, a camera or storage drive icon will be shown in My Computer window.
4.Double click the new icon, you will see the pictures. Simply select the pictures, copy and paste them to your own folder.
Depends on the brands, you may have some sub-folders instead of pictures. For example, on a Panasonic Lumix camera, you may get two sub-folders: DCIM and MISC. Click on the DCIM folder, there are some sub-folders in it: XXX_PANA, click and open these subfolders you’ll find all the pictures.

Suddenly my Canon A640 Stopped downloading photos to my Wiindows XP. Going to My Computer connecting the camera and turning it on did nothing. By accident I tried scanners and camera icon in the control panel and a camera icon appeared. Double clicking that led me to my pictures.
