How to fix a ‘card locked’ problem

If you have a ‘card locked’ problem, the first thing to do is to check your SD card.

There is a switch on the side of the SD card. When the switch is on unlock position, you can format, take pictures or delete pictures. But if you slide the switch to lock position, you can not do above operations. The camera will say ‘card locked’.

Actually the switch is not an electronic part on SD cards, it’s just an indicator. So if you have set the card to unlock position but didn’t solve the problem, there is nothing wrong with your SD card. You need to open up the camera to check the SD card slot.

Here is a main board of Panasonic DMC-LZ5. On the side of the SD card slot, there are two tiny spring plates. This is the switch to detect the indicator of SD cards.

On unlock position, the two spring plates are not in contact.

If the spring plates in contact somehow,  it causes a ‘card locked’ problem. To fix it, try to blow compressed air to clean the springs and align them out of contact when the card is set to unlock position.

While tryin to move the tiny lever to unlock card from my SD 1000 CANNON Camera. I broke the little lever and and now I am lost; what can I do? I took a needle to fix it or move it but it will not move to to the right neither to the left I have to open the camera?
    can it be fixed?

    Hi,

    I think I have the same problem…
I broke(lost)the lock/unlock switch… And now my camera says that the card is locked, so I can’t record anything more… (logical)
What can I do to solve this problem? How can I put inside the card a new switch buttom? or what can I use to fix this problem? Give me a tip please.

    Thanks in advance!

Thank you. Once I figured out how to disassemble the camera, I was able to repair the card locked problem.
