How to replace LCD screen on Canon SD870IS
On How to change LCD screen for Panasonic DMC-TZ1 and How to replace LCD screen for Canon SD1000, I replaced a complete LCD units which a backlight is included in. This time I’m going to show you how to replace a LCD sheet.
A complete LCD unit costs over $80.00 usually. A LCD sheet only costs half. If you have a cracked LCD with backlight working, what you need to do is to change the LCD sheet only. Just a little more work can save your money.
This is a Canon SD870IS.
Remove the battery and 6 screws around the camera, then take off the front and back covers.
Remove 2 screws and take off the bracket.
Lift up the LCD unit from one side, unlock the connector and unplug the LCD data cable.
Unlock and unplug the backlight cable.
Disengage 4 claws to loose the shield.
Peel the backlight cable off gently.
Now take off the shield.
Take the broken LCD sheet out and put the new one on carefully.

Put the shield on. Let the backlight cable goes through the gap shown on figure 10. Gently press the shield to engage the 4 claws.

Now plug in the backlight cable and data cable, and secure the connectors.
Put the LCD bracket and screws back as shown on figures 1, 2, 3. Put on the cavers and close the camera.
