Sorry to keep spamming the comments, but I felt I should mention I've been re-compensated the repairs charge ($166) for my out of warranty 2 year old broken G9.

I got through to the Service Department manager Patty, explained that my camera has experienced the same problem that other cameras with service advisories have and should be treated in a similar manner. She agreed and refunded my service charge.

In total, I spent a long time on the phone but I eventually got through to someone that could make a call on my case and I guess the chips fell in my favour.

I'm out $30 for shipping, but I'm relieved Canon took responsibility for what truly is a design flaw on this camera. Good luck to anyone else.
